Introduction

The Oakville Golf Club is a private nine-hole golf club established in 1921 when the Town of Oakville only had 3289 residents.  It is built on land owned by the Lightbourn Family. E.T. (Ted) Lightbourn was a founding member and first president, from 1921 to 1932. His wife and four children were all proud charter members. His youngest daughter Ruth founded the local school known today as St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn. This land had been leased for years by a local butcher, Bill Buckle, to graze and fatten up cows, pigs and sheep for his store, Buckle's Butcher Shop which he opened in 1903, at the corner of Colborne (now Lakeshore Road) and Dunn in downtown Oakville just south of today’s Queen’s Head Pub.

The first official exhibition match to celebrate the Club opening was played between George Cummings, pro of the Toronto Golf Club and William Freeman, pro of the Lambton Golf Club, Nicol Thompson, pro of the Hamilton Golf Club, and George S. Lyons, eight time amateur champion of Canada, playing out of the Lambton club.

We are located on 56 acres of land at the south end of 6th Line, running west to the banks of 16 Mile Creek, still on the original acreage. We are close enough to most residential neighbourhoods to be accessible within minutes. It's easy to fit in a game after work on a summer's eve, a real delight after having perhaps spent a day amidst concrete.

Our small and limited membership means you are not only welcomed by name by our staff, you soon meet fellow members and forge lasting friendships.

Our course has changed since 1921. It is impeccably groomed and takes you beside old-growth forest, beautiful evergreen and deciduous trees, a winding stream, an attractive pond and well-kept sand traps.

And our course is challenging: long par 4's and a slope rating of 131 means it is a good test of golf. Yet nine holes can be completed in less than two hours. And if you are not pressed for time, you can play a full 18 from what we call the back nine from tee locations very different from the front nine.

In 2015 the Oakville Golf Club was proud to host the Toronto Star Women's Amateur Golf Tournament.

The Oakville Golf Club is in the heart of the Town of Oakville. It's Oakville's golf club.   It's where you truly belong.
